Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, chef and YouTuber, was sentenced to life imprisonment after murdering Colombian plastic surgeon Edwin Arrieta Arteaga in Koh Pha-ngan, Thailand. The crime occurred in August 2023.
Sancho was charged with premeditated murder. The chef claimed he had a fight with Arrieta, who allegedly died after hitting his head in the bathtub. After the surgeon’s death, Sancho dismembered the victim and disposed of the body at sea and on land. He also reportedly disposed of the victim’s documents.
Police reports state that Sancho had planned the murder because Arrieta threatened to reveal their alleged intimate relationship. Sancho denied having any relations with Arrieta.
Police obtained security camera footage that allegedly showed Sancho buying a knife, rubber gloves, trash bags, and cleaning products from a convenience store before Arrieta’s death.
“I’m sorry that a life has been lost and that parents have lost a child,” Sancho said, according to the Spanish newspaper El País.
The sentence was handed down in the last week of August 2024.
